Associate Underwriter – Chicago, IL

This position is responsible to develop skills required to analyze aviation risks, gain understanding of company objectives, and build relationships with key aviation brokers and clients. Further duties and responsibilities are listed below:

  • Load underwriting models including endorsements and coverages where applicable
  • Create an underwriting analyst pack, peer review analyst packs for accuracy, and complete analyst checklist for each file
  • Issue quote, binder documents, policy and mid-term changes as directed by the Underwriting Team
  • Responsible for assisting Underwriting Team on credit control items and proofreading documents for final mailings
  • Review policy detail report and highlight any discrepancies with the sales team. Assist in rectifying the issues
  • Maintain proficiency with internal systems at the direction of Underwriting staff
  • Provide initial book of business and review strategies with Underwriting Management
  • In-Person introductions to aviation agents/brokers to foster good rapport and develop Global’s business plan and mission statement
  • Work with underwriting analyst as assigned for issuance of policy documents by assembling and organizing complete underwriting, and rating information in a form and manner which will assure an error-free, understandable, and professional product in accordance with company standards
  • Compose and effect the issuance of contract certain/compliant endorsements, certificates of insurance and binders in accordance with company standards
  • Maintain knowledge of technical developments/changes in the aviation field and aviation insurance industry
  • Keep abreast of new technologies, procedures, and guidelines within the company
  • Maintain up-to-date rating manuals, underwriting guidelines, procedures manual and files as necessary to keep abreast of Company policies, goals, and objectives
  • Monitor changes in any particular risk, agency, or area which might affect the production of aviation business in the assigned territory
  • Maintain responsibility for collections of outstanding premiums on business produced in assigned territory
  • Domestic Travel – up to 25% of working time




• Graduate with a 4-year degree (BS/BA). Aeronautical Science, Aviation Management/Administration or Risk Management/Insurance Degree, preferred



  • Aviation or prior insurance experience
  • Superior written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently



  • Pilot Certificate/License (Instrument Rating Preferred)
  • 1 to 2 years of underwriting, agency/brokerage, or risk management experience
