Purpose of Job: Investigate, analyze, and determine the extent of hull and liability loss or damages, and make recommendations to the VP, Claims Manager. The incumbent will also liaise with management on statistical reports when required.

Key responsibilities:

  • Receive, investigate, negotiate and settle hull and liability claims
  • Attend to claims including accident sites away from the office
  • Instruct third party adjusters and solicitors
  • Act on direction of VP Claims
  • Arrange and participate in salvage retrieval
  • Obtain cognitive statements from the Insureds and Third Parties
  • Maintain and follow Claims procedures
  • Maintain Claims adjustment continuity
  • Liaise with underwriters and management
  • Liaise with the Head Office as per Standing Instructions

Other position requirements:

  • Liaise with brokers on claims matters
  • After hour and 24 hour claims notifications and appointments
  • Assist on risk management
  • Liaison with the Transportation Safety Board
  • Liaison with Transport Canada, maintain update information on Canadian Air Regulations and educate underwriters
  • Interact with opposing third party adjusters and counsel
  • Regularly attend claims meetings
  • Attend to legal proceedings as required
  • Occasionally attend conventions, public relations functions, and formulate presentations
  • Educate underwriters with respect to aircraft type and their risk related intricacies
  • Ability to travel
  • Other duties as assigned

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • 2+ years of AME experience preferred
  • Private Pilot’s License (PPL) is an asset
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset
  • Law degree/legal background is an asset
  • CIP Designation/progression towards CIP designation
  • Ability to understand, interpret, communicate and apply claims and administrative policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of the company’s business mission, goals and of the company’s departments, business practices and systems
  • Anticipates and responds to potential and existing problems in assigned area of responsibility
  • Demonstrates good judgment and understands when to take initiative to solve problems on his or her own and when to involve his/her manager
  • Takes action on difficult or unpleasant tasks on a timely basis
  • Possesses a high level of skill in oral and written communication


  • The Claims Adjuster works under the direct supervision of the VP, Claims Manager
  • To work with an adhere to claims handling monetary authorities
