Job Title: Accounting Specialist

This position is primarily responsible for allocating wire and check information to open receivable items, data entry of these items and then clearing the receivable, researching payment discrepancies and working with brokers and underwriters to resolve the item, sending out end of month statements and researching and answering questions from brokers. Other duties include contacting brokers on overdue premium items for status updates and reporting to credit control committee, entering of expense invoices such as rent, utilities, etc. into payables system for processing, miscellaneous reporting functions, backup for premium/reinsurance entry and return premium check/ACH requests for approval and mailing. Further duties and responsibilities are listed below:

• Allocate payments to open receivable items and enter into accounting system
• Cash match payments to open receivable items
• Research & resolve unapplied/incorrect cash items with internal underwriters and external brokers when necessary
• Respond to any inquiries from underwriters and brokers
• Compile and send out monthly broker statements
• Various copying and filing of payments
• Pursue payment of overdue items via verbal and written communication with brokers and note on credit control spreadsheets for reporting to the credit control committee
• Back-up for entering premium, coverage and reinsurance data using information from policy specialists
• Create return premium requests when appropriate for approval and mailing
• Assist with non-accounting duties when needed by management

Qualifications
Education:
• Minimum of High School diploma or GED, with a two (2) year degree in Accounting/Finance or a four (4) year degree in another field preferred

Skills/Experience:
• Minimum three (3) years experience in general accounting or finance
• Must have excellent math aptitude
• Ability to conduct research to resolve discrepancies
• Must possess excellent proof-reading skills
• Must demonstrate effective listening, customer service, interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills
• Must demonstrate strong time management, organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving skills
